Seventy Roses and Ten Little Toes

The house is filled with 70 roses and a handful of family, to celebrate my mom's birthday. I got a new camera, so I went nutty today, playing around with shadows, depth of field and color. One more day without my husband, and two more days before I shoot a wedding!?!

Mackenzie Childs

Today, I finally got to see the grounds of Mackenzie Childs headquarters in Aurora, NY, the home of whimsical interiors, and the place that makes my mother's heart skip a beat. It is a 72 acre farm, studio and show house on Cayuga Lake. Any bit of The Finger Lakes will always make me smile.

Vintage Hanover Square

Rudy Baer's used to be where Louie's is. Nick's Restaurant used to be where Hanover Grille is. Village Vacuum was Rowen's Pizza. I could go on. I have haunted this square my whole life, some years less than others. The details are what remind me, let me remember and make me smile. It was those stairs that I climbed to listen to story time. It was at Holly Days in the square that I visited Santa and believed with all my heart. It was that bakery that I ordered my wedding cake. Of course, it was that pizza place that I got wings with Nate on a snow day. It's nice to be back, take a peek and be there again, just for a minute.

I got to sleep in this morning, and even after my body was upright, my bones moved slow. There is nothing better than breathing in fresh country air and realizing that my only meetings this week are with family, over wine and laughter.

Would expect anything less from me? We travelled from North Carolina to NY this day, and I couldn't resist shooting the beautiful sky during the whole 13 hour excursion. Vacation at last!

My head's in the clouds!

Tomorrow at noon my vacation starts. (hoo-ray!) I am taking the little man to NY to visit family, and I tell you that I am very excited about the picture possibilities for this blog!! My love goes out to you all!!
